Hi everyone welcome to The Ask Dr Cris Show. I’m asked about a green supplements. Should I have them? Should I be including them? What’s this hype about all these green things like spirulina and wheat grass and chlorella?

Should I be including them in my diet? They’re often a great way to increase that vegetable intake if you’re not having your vegetables. You often can get those substances if you’re having your five serves of veggies a day but if you’re not it’s a great way to include it. They can be a great way to, as they say, alkalise your system. Which is you know, bits of that debatable does it work does it not but I think it’s a great way to introduce your greens, it’s a great way to have a serve of vegetables in the morning. It’s a great way to try and balance that blood sugar particularly in the morning. So including it as part of your healthy lifestyle routine in the morning or in the evening is not a bad option as well. Some individuals’ use it as an iron source if you’re vegetarian or vegan. It can be a good source of iron, sometimes it’s not enough particularly if you’re having heavy menstrual periods but it can be one vegetarian or vegan source of iron that might be helpful. So yes, it can be included as part of a healthy lifestyle, they’re not essential but they can be helpful and they can help motivate you to be healthier and keep you on track as well. So not a bad idea, so thanks for that question for all of you that have ever asked that question which I get asked a lot is it important should I include it or should I not. If you’ve got any other questions below I’d love to hear them.
