Hi everyone, and welcome to The Dr Chris Show. Today’s question comes from Jasmine she wants to know what causes painful periods.

They are really common – one in twenty women have painful periods it is a super common thing and there’s a couple of causes. The number one cause is endometriosis, so that is the number one cause. Endometriosis is a condition which can cause a lot of pain, but also infertility in some people. A lot of people don’t realise periods should not be painful, a bit of cramping, but should not be painful. Endometriosis unfortunately can’t be diagnosed with an ultrasound. It has to be diagnosed properly by a gynaecologist, it is something that is often picked up as a procedure, so it has to be a surgical procedure unfortunately. Endometriosis most common causes painful periods, there are some natural treatments available which I will cover in a separate clip but thank you for asking – a common question if you do have painful periods please consider that you may have endometriosis and it should be managed.

Thank you very much for your question, and leave more of your questions below. I hope that you are loving The Ask Dr Cris Show and if you would to see more of The Ask Dr Cris Show please press subscribe.
