Hi everyone Dr Chris here as part of the Dr Chris show, answering all of your health questions.
The next question relates to sleep. How much sleep is the ideal? Now research shows 7 to 8 hours of sleep is the ideal for healthy adult. Teenagers need more around 10 to 11, and toddlers need a lot more around 15 hours.
So it depends on the individual but generally the research does show for longevity and quality of life it’s 7 to 8 hours sleep per night.
Five percent of the population can get away with less sleep, ie: six hours a night and you will know if you are this individual – if you only get 6 hours per night and you don’t feel tired throughout the day. So the litmus test if you are getting enough sleep, is you are sitting in a comfortable chair and it takes you 20 minutes to fall asleep or longer, so really if you are falling asleep within five minutes you’re not getting enough sleep.
So I look forward to answering more of your health questions to come.
