Hi everyone, Dr Cris here for the Dr Cris Show. I have a question this week from Jean, and Jean asks how can I prevent aging.
Well, you can’t prevent ageing but you can age gracefully and I believe the secret to aging gracefully comes from the inside out. So there are many things that have been shown in studies to I guess delay the aging process and ones exercise and if you don’t use it you will lose it.
Muscle mass in particular if you lose muscle mass studies do show that your chances of dying younger are much higher, and your chances of having chronic diseases are much higher, things like osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, so if you don’t use it you lose it, so do try and keep active throughout the year so that is key number one.
Number two is to avoid substances that we know harm the body and that’s cigarette smoke, too much alcohol, too much caffeine and too much stress believe it or not, they create toxic chemicals that can harm the body and shorten your life expectancy.
The third and final thing is sleep. You may not think sleep is that important for longevity but its being shown that 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night consistently, helps to prolong our life. So those are just 3 tips to aging gracefully.
