Hi everyone, Dr Cris here with The Ask Dr Cris Show.  Today’s question comes from Morgan, he would like to know do I need to take vitamin supplements?

Really great question, a lot of people do take supplements, and do they actually do any good. There are some studies to show that if you don’t need them they may do you some harm. There are two population groups that really need to consider taking supplements and speaking to your local doctor first, or an integrative doctor who specialises in supplement, are those individuals that have had a heart attack. If you take a calcium supplement some studies are showing that you’re more likely to have another heart attack. Other individuals are those over the age of 50 taking a multivitamin may shorten your life, so I think that’s interesting. I think it’s a combination of accumulation, too much of what you don’t need.  So, my suggestion would not to be to take a broad spectrum supplement as such but take a targeted supplement and that really needs to be guided by an integrative doctor, or your other health practitioner, that knows what they’re talking about when it comes to supplements.

Thanks for your question, great question, I look forward to answer more of your questions below.  Hope that you are loving The Ask Dr Cris show, if you’d like to see more of The Ask Dr Cris Show please press subscribe.
